Good news to future iPhone owners in Brazil! As the Brazilian government has banned Apple from selling iPhones without chargers and fined the company $2.4 million for “discriminatory conduct.”

The Brazilian authorities banned the sale of iPhones without chargers in an official notice, and fined the California-based company 12.28 million reais ($2.4 million USD).

The Department of Consumer Protection and Defense prohibited the sale of all iPhone 12 and 13 models.

Apple is being investigated in Brazil for “selling an incomplete product,” “discriminating against consumers,” and “shifting responsibility to third parties” by selling iPhone 12s and subsequent models without chargers for power outlets.

The US tech giant had been fined by Brazilian state agencies before, but “did not take any efforts to reduce the impact,” the statement stated.

Apple claims that excluding iPhone chargers from sales is a “environmental commitment.”

The ministry decided that Apple’s policy “is not an effective demonstration of environmental protection on Brazilian land as a consequence” and and accused the company of “deliberate discriminatory practices against consumers.”

There is no justification for an operation which, in aiming to reduce carbon emissions, leads to the introduction into the consumer market of a product whose use depends on the acquisition of another (product) which is also marketed by the company,” the official notice added.

This is a good news for future iPhones’ owners in Brazil. We hope to see other governments following suit and filing similar charges against Apple and Samsung for being greedy! What do you think? Let us know!
