Developers have implemented Apple’s Dynamic Island on an Xiaomi smartphone, which opens the possibility of making this new features available on most Android phones. The feature called “Smart Island”. The video shows someone attempting to copy Apple’s new feature on an Android phone. Xiaomi has not approved the changes, but when it does, the updated theme with Apple’s Dynamic Island will be available on the MIUI store.

One of the most exciting features of Apple’s new iPhone 14 series was Dynamic Island.
The iOS feature, exclusive to the new Pro iPhones, serves to disguise Apple’s new pill-shaped camera housing by providing quick access to a variety of system controls and information, including alerts, calls, timers, music, accessory pairing, and much more.

Apple’s Dynamic Island may be a prime candidate for imitation by Android manufacturers, like many Apple features that came before their time. Not that Apple is beyond stealing ideas from Android, but it’s common knowledge that the inverse is also true. To that end, a Mi Theme developer has already put together an Android style Dynamic Island for use on a Xiaomi smartphone.

The short video was discovered by TechDroider’s Vaibhav Jain, and it demonstrates how notifications and a now playing section on Xiaomi’s MIUI software look. The Grumpy UI theme, it has been stated, is currently only available in the normal Chinese language.
When the Island is expanded, the pinhole selfie camera is hidden away neatly out of sight.
According to Jain, the designers of the Dynamic Island theme are still considering whether or not to release an update. The theme will be available in the MIUI Themes shop if it has been reviewed and approved by Xiaomi.
Do Android users need to have Apple’s Dynamic Island on their phones?
It still early days, and it’s too soon to tell if Xiaomi or any other Android phone makers will officially adopt a version of the Dynamic Island on their Android smartphones.
It would be counter-intuitive for Android OEMs to incorporate a pill-shaped notch, or any notch at all, given the current trend of Android phones to have less clutter on their phones. Having said that, we can’t rule out that we won’t see Apple’s Dynamic Island features on future android phones.
