Gionee, the Chinese mobile phone manufacturer, has released its latest flagship smartphones Elife E8 and Marathon M5 at China Film Directors Center, Beijing, China. The E8 focus on smartphone photography with its 24-Megapixel camera, whereas the M9 focus on battery life with its huge battery.

Elife E8

One of the biggest highlights of the Elife E8 is its 24 Megapixel rear camera, which is capable of producing photographs up to 100 Megapixel in resolution, the technology is similar to the one found in the 2012 Nokia 808 PureView phone.

The rear camera has the fastest focus speed up to 0.08s-0.02s and offers lossless zoom, the company claims it is the first Android smartphone to have such feature. Furthermore, the camera has Optical Image Stabilization, Dual True Tone LED flash, six element lens and is capable of capturing 4K videos.

In terms of other specification; the Elife E8 features a 6-inch Quad-HD 2K AMOLED display with 490ppi, 2.0GHz Octa-core Mediatek Helio X10 processor clocked at up 2GHz paired with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in storage. Also, the E8 is 4G/LTE enabled and has a fingerprint sensor at the back of the device positioned beneath the rear camera and 3,250mAh battery.

Marathon M5

The new Marathon M5 focus on the battery with its huge 6,020mAh battery (dual battery 3,010mAh x 2), is a great improvement over the 5,000mAh battery in it ancestor M3. The company promises that the Marathon M5 will solve the battery issue which most smartphone users faces these-days.

The device supports fast charging technology. Gionee claims that the Marathon M5’s battery can last up to four days of usage, quite impressive to the 1-day average battery life of new smartphones.

Other specification on-board the Marathon M5, a 5.5-inch HD AMOLED display at 1280x720p resolution, a quad-core 1.3 GHz processor combined with a 2GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage with microSD slot for storage expansion.

The Marathon M5 has a 13-Megapixel rear camera and a 5-Megapixel front-facing shooter. The M5 is a dual-SIM device and supports 4G/LTE connectivity. Despite housing the huge batteries, the device is still relatively ok, with a thickness of 8.5 mm and the outer rim measuring 4.75 mm.

Gionee Elife E8 and Marathon M5 flagship Smartphones Released Price

Both devices run Amigo 3.1 which is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop. In terms of prices and availability, the Gionee Elife E8 is set to cost 3999 RMB which is about ($645 – £415 – €570) starting on July 15th, whereas the dual-SIM Gionee Marathon M5 is slightly cheaper, costing 2299 RMB translating to about $370 – £240 – €327 and will come in Black, White and Gold starting June 25th.
