Chinese Gionee has officially launched its Maraton M5 Plus phablet with a 6-inch screen and a 5020mAh dual battery. The new device has an uninspiring design, at first glance from the front, it looks like one of Samsung’s Galaxy S6 devices and from the rear it looks like the Honor 7 made by Huawei.

Aside from the mediocre design, the Gionee Maraton M5 Plus comes with a metal body design and decent hardware specifications. It hosts a fingerprint scanner, a USB type-C 2.0 port for charging and data, and also a Full HD 1080p AMOLED touch screen covered by 2.5D curved glass and has a pixel density of 368PPI (pixels per inch).

Powering the M5 Plus is a 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6753 octa-core processor, Mali T-720 GPU for graphics, 3GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in memory. The microSD slot option offers an extra 128GB of storage capacity. Whilst the large 5020mAh battery promises to deliver up to 53 hours of talk time and 829 hours of standby time.

In the camera department, there is a 13-Megapixel rear camera with LED flash and Phase Detection Auto-Focus, along with a 5-Megapixel front-facing shooter. The device has a dual-SIM slot and supports 4G LTE connectivity and also has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v4.0 and GPS and runs Google’s Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS with Amigo OS 3.1.
