The Nexus 5 is an awesome device, but sadly Google has excluded it from the latest Android 7.0 Nougat OS, meaning if you have a Nexus 5 phone you will not be getting the official OTA update from Google.

The good news is that you can today easily install the Android 7.0 Nougat on your Nexus 5 device in less than 10 minute with these simple & easy to follow steps below.

Before you start, here’s what works and what doesn’t in this ROM:

Let’s Start

Step 1

  • Back up your data before starting flashing your Nexus 5. Also make sure your phone is already rooted and fully charged.

Step 2

  • Download the stable AOSP build created by developers at XDA, and also the Open Google Apps file (below). This is a relatively stable build, however do download it at your own risk.

Step 3

  • You also need TWRP. If you don’t have it on your phone, download it from the link below and watch the video on how to install it on your Nexus 5. If you already have it, skip to step 4.
  • Download TWRP

Step 4

  • Connect your Nexus 5 to your PC using USB cable, and copy the files from Step 2 to your Nexus 5 memory.

Step 5

  • Disconnect your Nexus 5 and power it off.

Step 6

  • Boot your Nexus 5 into the recovery mode by pressing and holding: Volume Down and the Power buttons at the same time. Use the Volume keys to navigate to TWRP menu, and press the Power button to select.

Step 7

  • In the TWRP menu clear phone memory: go to Wipe > Factory Reset.

Step 8

  • Return to TWRP menu and press Install and locate the AOSP 7.0 V1 for Nexus 5 firmware zip file from your phone memory.
  • Confirm the installation process by tapping Swipe to Confirm Flash.
  • Wait for the Android 7.0 Nougat ROM installation to complete.
  • When you see the Successful message, you can restart your phone.

Step 9

  • If you have installed the Android N ROM and can’t find Google Apps, like the Play Store you need to install the OpenGApps from step 2 using TWRP. The way you install this is similar to step 8>> TWRP menu and press Install and locate the OpenGApps zip file from the phone memory.
  • Confirm the installation process by tapping Swipe to Confirm Flash.
  • When you see the Successful message, you can restart your phone.

Now you should have Android 7.0 Nougat running on your Nexus 5.

NOTE: If Google Play Services is crashing, grant it the location permission in the settings.

Done.
