Today in London, Huawei has finally put the rumours and leaks to rest after officially unveiling the P9 smartphones series. The new Huawei P9 and P9 Plus are aimed at consumers who like to take photography to the next level with their smartphones. The phones are wrapped in sleek metal bodies and equipped with Leica cameras and fingerprint scanners.
Both new smartphones are equipped with dual Lens cameras made by Leica. The camera has a large RGB sensor and Monochrome sensor. The 12-Megapixel Leica camera promises to take sharper images in low light conditions. It has fast laser autofocus and f/2.2 aperture. Both devices also have 8-Megapixel front-facing cameras.
The Huawei P9 is strikingly slim, at only 6.95mm thin, Huawei says the P9 is slimmer than the Galaxy S7 (7.9mm) and the iPhone 6s (7.1mm). The Huawei P9 comes with a 5.2-inch Full HD IPS LCD screen, whereas the Huawei P9 Plus employs a 5.5-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display with Press Touch Pressure sensitive technology.
The P9 will be offered in 3GB RAM+32GB inbuilt storage and 4GB RAM+64GB storage variants, while the P9 Plus will only be available in 4GB RAM+64GB storage. The Huawei P9 has a 3,000mAh battery, and there is a 3,400mAh on-board the Huawei P9 Plus.
Other specs are relatively the same on both phones; HiSilicon Kirin 955 (4 Cortex-A72 cores at 2.5GHz, 4 Cortex-A53 cores at 1.8GHz) processor, dual SIM port, microSD slot supports up to 128GB, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth v4.1, Infrared, and USB Type-C connectors. The phones also run Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Huawei EMUI 4.1 user interface on top.
The Huawei P9 measures 145×70.9×6.95mm and weighs 144 grams, whereas the P9 Plus is slightly larger, measuring 152.3×75.3×6.98mm and weighing 162 grams. Both smartphone will be offered in Ceramic White, Haze Gold, Prestige Gold, Rose Gold, Silver, and Titanium Grey colour options.

As for price and availability, the Huawei P9 with 3GB RAM+32GB ROM is priced at €599 (~$682 – £481 – $905 AUD), and €649 Euros for the 4GB RAM+64GB ROM model. The Huawei P9 Plus on the other hand, comes at €749 (~$854 – £604 – $1,125 AUD). Both the Huawei P9 and P9 Plus will be made available in 29 countries across Asia, Africa, and Europe starting from April 16.
