The most recent Apple software iOS 16 is now accessible for iPhone owners, however the lengthy reappearance of the battery level indicator in the status bar will not be available to those people with smaller iPhones.

After the release of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro, Apple launched iOS 16, which included a slew of improvements and features such as configurable lock screens, an undo button in iMessage, and more crucially the restoration of battery percentages in the status bar.

The battery percentage used to always be displayed next to the battery symbol on older iPhones, however when the iPhone X first debuted, the number was deleted due to the new notch design didn't provide enough area for it.

Apple's best software engineers have finally come up with a solution, five years after the notch was debuted - the battery percentage sits inside the battery indicator.

iPhones will not have battery percentage

Unfortunately, any of you with an iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 mini, or iPhone 13 mini will be exempt from this part of the iOS 16 upgrade, according to Apple's official support website, though Apple hasn't specified why these specific models are being left out.

The mini iPhones have 5.4-inch displays which are relatively very small, and even with the change in how the battery percentage is presented, they may still be too small to clearly show the details.

However, this does not explain the iPhone XR and iPhone 11, which both have larger 6.1-inch displays - the very same screen size as the iPhone 12, which is not exempt from the update. We assume it has something to do with the screen's resolution - the lower-resolution iPhone 11 and iPhone XR may not have sufficient pixels to clearly show the new battery icon - but we're not sure.

Those lucky iPhone owners of an iPhone 8 or later, should be able to enjoy the most of the perks that iOS 16 delivers... however if you want to experience them all, you may need to update your smaller smartphone to one of Apple's largest and greatest iPhones; the new iPhone 14 series.
