The Nexus 5X is Google’s latest smartphone in the Nexus series, the device is made by LG electronics and was launched yesterday along with the flagship version, the Nexus 6P which is made by Huawei.
The Nexus 5X in already up for pre-orders in UK and other markets. The device ships with Google’s latest operating system, Android 6 Marshmallow which will start rolling out next week to other Nexus devices – Nexus 5, 6, 7, 9 and Nexus Player.
The Nexus 5X and 6P are Googles’ first Nexus smartphones that are equipped with fingerprint sensors called “Nexus Imprint“, which gives you quick and secure access to your phone, as well as using it for making payments for purchases via Android Pay, which is currently only available in the U.S. The Nexus Imprint can also be used by third party apps.
The Nexus 5X is an upgraded version of the iconic Nexus 5. The new device comes with new improvements such as; a 12.3-Megapixel Sony camera with larger 1.55µm micron pixels sensor that catch more light, day or night allowing you to capture great photos in brilliant detail even in low conditions.
The 5X’s camera can shoot slow motion videos, a great way for capturing action scenes or just adding a little bit of fun to your personal videos. The device is capable of capturing 120 frames per second and can now film 4K videos at normal rate. Never miss a fleeing moment, just double tap the power button to instantly launch the camera.
One of other interesting features on-board the 5X and 6P is the Android Sensor Hub; a dedicated low power processor that connects directly to the phones’ sensors and runs Google’s unique sensors algorithms. Smartphones’ processors usually use large amounts of sensor data over time in a power-efficient way. By offloading sensor processing from the main CPU to the Android sensor Hub, that leads the device to consume less power translating into more battery life.
Furthermore, the Android Sensor Hub performs advance activity and gesture recognition, it is smart enough to track your run or your biking as soon as you start, even when the screen is off with less power usage. It can also detect when the phone is picked up, and automatically activate the ambient display. The ambient display shows you the time and any pending notifications on your lock screen in a low-power white-on-black display mode. When you touch the screen you go into a full power mode and interact with your notifications.
Other specifications include a 5.2-inch FHD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 cpu, 2GB RAM, a choice of storage 16GB or 32GB, a 2700mAh battery with USB Type-C port for quicker charging time and data transfer. Also There is LTE CAT 6 with global band support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v4.2, NFC, and GPS / GLONASS.
The Nexus 5X measures 147 x 72.6 x 7.9mm and weighs about 136 grams. It comes in Carbon Black, Sports White, and Ice Blue. Pre-orders are already in full swing on Google Play in US, UK, Ireland, and Japan, shipping set for late October. The new 5X is priced at $379 – £339 for the 16GB and $429 – £379 for the 32GB model.
