Potential Problems MacBook Owners May Encounter

As a MacBook owner, you might feel pretty confident about your device not running into potential issues. While such a train of thought is understandable, it can still be considered too far-fetched.

It is true that Macs are some of the most reliable computers you can find on the market these days. However, it does not mean that they come without faults. If anything, they are like other devices, and you are bound to notice issues with your MacBook eventually.

The question is what you can do to solve potential issues. In some instances, you will need to take the laptop to a service store. In others, you should be fine by yourself.

Let’s take a look at some of the most common MacBook problems and methods to deal with them. Make sure to memorize these tips so that you know what to do the next time there is a problem with your computer.

macOS Issues

As a rule of thumb, you should always install operating system updates, and that is the case because of three reasons:

  • Benefiting from the latest features
  • Noticing overall performance improvements
  • Countering potential cybersecurity threats

Having said that, there might still be some issues on the computer after you install the latest macOS version. For one, some of the applications that you have been using up until now might not be working any more.

There were multiple cases of users reporting how macos monterey apps not working properly on their computer forced them to go back to a previous operating system version.

More often than not, it is incompatibility behind the problem. After you update macOS, make sure that applications also have the latest version and are compatible with a new OS.

Screen flickers are another example of an issue that occurs after updating macOS. For this, the issue lies in the graphics processing unit that loses compatibility with the operating systems. Checking for the latest GPU drivers and installing them if they are missing should be enough to solve the flickering problem.

Overheating

Overheating, as well as loud noises from the internal MacBook fans, is usually a result of negligence from the owner. Not everyone is keen to clean the dust inside. Instead, they let the filth accumulate over time and struggle to identify the cause behind overheating.

Now, another obstacle with this is that cleaning the dust inside a laptop is a challenge. To clean it thoroughly, you need to take a laptop apart and put it back together. Is that something you would be willing to risk? Unlikely.

Instead of risking damage to the MacBook, you should pay someone who knows what they are doing and leave the dust cleaning to them.

Memory Leaks

Memory leaks, a phenomenon that occurs when a computer has been running for a while, is not an issue that you can notice right away. However, if you pay attention, you should see that the MacBook slows down. It might take longer to load applications, switching between tabs starts to feel clunky, and so on.

After applications have been running for a while, they start to distribute computer memory incorrectly, and that is what memory leaks are. To counter the issue, simply restart the computer and you will feel the difference in its performance. And once you notice that the overall MacBook performance slows down again, restart it.

Poor Video Game Performance

Running video games on a MacBook is problematic because of the device’s hardware. However, it should not have issues with low-end games that are not as demanding.

On the off chance that you experience FPS drops or cannot even launch a game that should be running on a Mac, try one of the following suggestions:

  • Scan the computer for potential malware attacks
  • Declutter the drive so that it has enough free storage
  • Make sure the OS is updated
  • Tinker with in-game settings to reduce graphics

Slow Internet Browser

Safari is the default internet browser for macOS, and it should not cause problems for the users. However, some Mac owners switch to a different browser, such as Google Chrome or Firefox.

If there are problems with an internet browser, clearing its cache should be one of the first things to do. In case that does not help, check whether you installed too many redundant browser extensions.

Lackluster Battery

Despite regular improvements to a MacBook’s hardware, which includes battery, some people still run into the issue of the battery draining too soon. Having to plug the charger constantly is pretty annoying, and it would be more efficient to solve some of the battery issues.

Start by decluttering the desktop. Next, make sure that there are no redundant background processes consuming the battery.

If you can, unplug the charger as soon as the battery reaches 100 percent, since overcharging is known to mess with the battery. Finally, avoid putting the MacBook to sleep and shut it down instead when you finish using the device.
