Samsung today officially unveils the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, featuring infinity curved display with an embedded invisible Home screen button beneath the QHD display, IP68 dust and water proof, new iris scanner and facial recognition capabilities, and also Samsung’s new virtual assistant, Bixby.
The Galaxy S8 packs a 5.8-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED display, whereas the Galaxy S8+ has a larger 6.2-inches touchscreen. The curved-edge screen panel is protected by Gorilla Glass 5 which comes as standard on-board Galaxy phones.
The Galaxy S8 series will be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor in the U.S., whereas the international version will be powered by Samsung’s own processor; the Exynos chipset. Both Galaxies will be blessed with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage as well as microSDXC support.
In the camera department, there is an 8MP Autofocus camera with iris scanner at the front and a 12MP Dual Pixel camera at the rear alongside the flash and heart rate sensor, as well as a newly positioned fingerprint scanner. The oblong physical Home button on the front of the phone is now an invisible one that sits beneath the QHD display.
The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are fuelled by a relatively conservative 3,000mAh and 3,500mAh batteries. Other features include; fast wireless charging, USB Type-C connector and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Both the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ will be offered in a choice of colours including; Gold, Silver, Black and Blue. The Galaxy S8 is priced at £689 and Galaxy S8+ is priced at £779. Both phones are now available for pre-order in the UK via Samsung UK and are expected be released on April 19th.
