With more than 93% of all recalled Galaxy Note7 devices returned. The South Korean company is now forcing the remaining Galaxy Note7 users in the U.S. to return their devices for the U.S. Note7 Refund and Exchange Program. Samsung has announced that it will start disabling the Galaxy Note7 devices remotely in the U.S. this month.

Samsung will release a software update starting on December 19th that will disable all remaining Note7 devices from being able to hold a charge. This software update will eliminate the ability of these Galaxy Note7 to work as mobile devices. The software is expected to start rolling out to other Galaxy Note7 users in different regions.

Sprint will start pushing the software to its Galaxy Note7 customers on January 8th, 2017. The mobile carrier is asking the Note7 users to immediately power off their devices and discontinue using them. Sprint says it will honour the replacement of all Sprint Samsung Note7 devices to any other device, regardless where or when it was purchased. You should check the company’s condition and return policy.

Additionally, Sprint also says; customers who select to move to any Samsung phone will receive a $100 service credit on their bill (within 3 billing cycles). Customers who select to move to any other phone will receive a $25 service credit on their bill (within 3 billing cycles). All upgrade, activation and restock fees will be waived, Sprint added.

Verizon on the other hand, says it will not push the software to its users to disable their Galaxy Note7 device remotely. The company’s VP of Global Corporate Communications Jeffrey Nelson says: “We will not push a software upgrade that will eliminate the ability for the Note7 to work as a mobile device in the heart of the holiday travel season. We do not want to make it impossible to contact family, first responders or medical professionals in an emergency situation,” he added.

Verizon says that a vast majority of its customers who have purchased the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 have already replaced their devices with other models.
