As many tablet makers start to produce larger tablets to be used in our homes, replacing small TVs inside our Kitchens and with waterproof capability, now even used in our bathrooms. The newly announced Aquos Famiredo tablet from Sharp is designed to just do that with its size and waterproof certifications.
The large tablet with its large display is designed for home entertainments, allowing you to enjoy live TV with the built-in TV Tuner, as well as streaming and watching online contents. In addition, it is even possible to watch stored Blu-ray movies through an external USB drive, or via AQUOS Blu-ray box which it seems to come as part of the bundle with the tablet.

If the 12.3-inch display on-board VAIO’s Z Canvas tablet is not enough. Japanese Sharp went even larger by equipping the Aquos Famiredo with a 15.6-inch display which has a resolution of 1366 × 768 pixels. Powering the large display is a Rockchip RK3188 quad-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz and paired with 1GB of RAM and only 8GB storage. Luckily there is a microSD card slot for extra memory space.

The Sharp Aquos Famiredo is IPX5 /IPX7 certified making it usable in even wet environments such as; bathrooms, near pools, or while using with wet hands when cooking, and if it gets dirty, just give it a rinse under the tap. Sharp however is advising against dipping it in sea water, salty baths with sulphur, heated tubs, or boiling water and etc. You may need to check the user manual before taking it for a swim and submerging it in any water.
The Aquos Famiredo runs Android 4.4.4 Kitkat and has a battery life of up to 5 hours of usage. It is supplied with a stand for hands free moments especially when in the kitchen. It has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for pairing it with other devices such as speakers, keyboard and/or a mouse. There is a built-in microphone and a 2-Megapixel frontal camera, great for chatting or Skyping. There is no rear camera, presumably due to the tablet’s size, which makes perfect sense.
Additionally, there is an ambient light sensor, accelerometer, gyro sensor and microUSB 2.0 port. Measuring (WxHxD) 39.5 x 25.4 x 2.4cm and weighing approximately 1.9 kg. The Sharp Aquos Famiredo comes in White and Black and will be launched in Japan with a retail price of about $745 (~£490 – €665 – $1060 AUD). There is no info about global availability at this point.
