UK mobile carrier Vodafone has officially announced the Smart Ultra 6 smartphone. A 4G Android powered budget friendly Vodafone-branded device costing only £125. The Smart Ultra 6 is packed with high-end hardware and is compact, thin and has a minimalist design.
The company is on a mission to create 4G smartphones at low cost. “We wanted to provide a powerful, 4G-ready smartphone for those with a budget under £100.” says Vodafone’s Product Management Director, Peter Becker-Pennrich.
The new Smart Ultra 6 from Vodafone features a 5.5 inch Full-HD IPS Quantum touchscreen display with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution and 400ppi, an octa-core 64-bit Qualcomm MSM8939 Snapdragon 615 processor paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage with microSD slot for storage expansion up to 128GB.
The Smart Ultra 6 has similar camera performance to some of the top end smartphones. It is equipped with Sony’s 13-Megapixel rear camera with LED flash capable of recording HD videos. At the front there is a 5-Megapixel front-facing camera.
The device hosts a large 3000mAh battery promising to last more than a full day on a single charge. For comparison the Ultra 6’s battery is almost twice the capacity of the battery in the iPhone 6, and 500mAh larger than the battery in the Samsung Galaxy S6, says the company.
In terms of connectivity, the 4G device is not short on that, it runs Android 5.1 Lollipop and has Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.0, FM, GPS, 3.5mm headphone port, Nano SIM slot and micro-USB port.
The Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 measures 154 x 77 x 8.35 and weighs 159 grams comes in Silver and Grey and costs £125 (approx $200 – €175) on Pay As You Go or Free on different contract plans offered by its maker, Vodafone.
