Today at Barcelona’s MWC 2016, Chinese Xiaomi has officially lift the lid on its Mi 5 – The company’s latest flagship and much anticipated smartphone. The Xiaomi Mi 5 is packed with top-of-the-line specs. It is unimaginably fast with the powerful Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
Xiaomi seems to have implemented Samsung’s rear curve design found in the Galaxy S7 & S7 Edge into its Mi 5 flagship smartphone. The Mi 5 looks almost like the Galaxy S7 Edge, but back to front. Having said that, the Mi 5’s 3D arc ceramic body looks exquisite.
The 3D curved ceramic body is made from a high-grade nano-ceramic zirconia, delivering the texture of marble, without the weight. It is also durable and resists any kind of abrasion, that’s up to 8H on the Mohs hardness scale, for comparison steel is 4 to 4.5, and 10 for diamond.

Quite impressive! Xiaomi also equipped the Mi 5 with an ultra-thin bezel on its 5.15-inch 1080p FHD LED display that is 17% more power efficient. The Mi 5 is 7.25mm thin and weighs 129g with the on-board high-density 3000mAh battery that supports Quick Charge 3.0 technology, a 5 minutes charge delivers 2.5 hours of usage.
The new Mi 5 doesn’t fall short in the camera department, Xiaomi has introduced the FOUR-axis OIS to the Mi 5, a new kind of optical image stabilization allowing you to take excellent photos in low light and shaky situations. The Mi boasts a 16MP rear camera with Sony IMX298 sensor that features DTI (Deep Trench Isolation) technology, preventing light leaks, resulting in pure and clean colours.
The Qualcomm Spectra image processor enables you shoot 4K videos, while the front-facing camera is a 4MP shooter that comes with many capturing mode features that pleases nearly everyone. The Mi 5 also has a front-facing fingerprint scanner which you can use to unlock the phone or make a payment.
Connectivity wise, the Mi 5 supports the super-fast 4G LTE Cat12 with download speed of up to 600Mbps, thanks to Snapdragon 820 processor. There is also dual band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC and GPS. The Xiaomi Mi 5 will ship with Android 6.0 Marshmallow along with MIUI 7 user interface.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 will be available through miui.com in Gold, White and Black. It starts at ¥1999 CNY (~$305 – £220 – €278 – $427 AUD) for the 32GB version with the 1.8GHz Snapdragon CPU, ¥2299 CNY (~$351 – £253 – €320 – $491 AUD) for the 64GB with the 2.15GHz CPU and ¥2699 CNY (~$412 – £297 – €376 – $576 AUD) for the pro model which comes with 128GB of internal storage with same 2.15GHz Snapdragon 820 processor.
